New Year

Update of stuff since Christmas.

WOOLOOMALOO AND DANCING
Staying the the MC flat on the
first night I got down, Ausra decided to show Mau (Mel Au) and I Wooloomaloo. Having spent 18 months living in Sydney I'd never actually been to the suburb and it seemed like a great chance to do that and hang out with the girls. We walked past the biggest yacht I've ever seen, the Kokomo which is a 51m super yacht. This thing was massive, with a mast double the size of any other boat moored there (and they weren't small boats either! Some were 48ft yachts like the one I went on with Westy and Kyle, but they looked like toys compared to this monster). The suburb of Wooloomaloo was also a nice setting to walk around and see things. Ausra did a great job of not getting us lost - I think she'd make a great tourguide if she wanted to. Then a pie with mushy peas and mash at Harry's Cafe de Wheels was a great way to cap off the afternoon. Then I caught up with some of the trainees at Darling Harbour. It was fantastic to see old friends again (Alenka, Gerry, Dover, Liz), meet new trainees who had arrived since I moved to Brissy (Gabi, Salma, Marina) and hang out with others too. We went Latin dancing and I had a gorgeous Brazilian teach me how to samba! Lucky me!

NEW YEARS EVE

New Years Eve I saw Mat, a Polish friend I see once or twice a year (almost never in the same city and it's normally not planned,
we just happen to run into each other!). Then took the trip over to Mel and Keeva's place who were great to have me over. A bit of a nap and some reading before heading over to a party at Pyrmont. I saw in the new year watching the Sydney Harbour fireworks from the great little park right at the end of Pyrmont before going back to the party and getting home as it was starting to get light. I'm still fascinated that as the most developed species on Earth, we're still caught like Deer in headlights when there are bright lights and big noises in the sky. The aliens will have it easy when they arrive...

NEW YEARS DAY

I got to hang out on NYD in the Domain with 30,000 other people (and the Trashbags!) at Field Day. They said the weather was going to be
miserable, but it couldn't be further from the truth. Sunshine all day and then a cooling rain after dark. The sets were really good, with my pick being the Freesylers. Plump DJ's and the Bang Gang DJs were also really good. But the day was great because I got to hang out with the Trashbags. I met them through Kyle and Westy and they are a tops bunch of people - heaps of fun, good conversation and nice to boot! This is the second Field Day spent with them - could it be a hat-trick in 08? Big thanks to Mel and Keeva for the accommodation too.

POST NEW YEARS
A week into 2007 and it would be interesting to see how many people who made resolutions have stuck to them. I'm not a huge fan of new years resolutions - why should people wait until the first day in the year to stop smoking, or start thinking they'll exercise 7 times a week or learn something new?

So, I thought I'd be a rebel and start my life changing ways a week late. :)
This year I'd like to start doing good habits a bit more and bad ones less. Sounds simple, I just need to work out which is which!

SOCIAL EXERCISE
Today I went and played basketball with Clayton and Tung. Was a lot of fun, and reminded me why I never played the game in high school (I'm shocking at it!). But also got me thinking team sports or social activities would be a good thing to get into rather than just the gym. So if anyone has any suggestions or teams that need filling get in touch or leave a comment. A couple of things I won't do: basketball, soccer, ferret legging. Some I'd consider: Latin Dancing, Rugby, Croquet.
